Building plan approved for Morant Bay Urban Centre

The building plan for the proposed Morant Bay Urban Centre in St. Thomas has been approved by the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation.

The construction of the urban centre had been in limbo following groundbreaking in June 2019.

The multi-billion dollar project also missed several start up dates amid environmental concerns.

During Thursday's meeting of the corporation, some councillors raised questions regarding who gave approval for the location of the sewage treatment plant.

The concerns stem from the fact that the sewage treatment plant is in close proximity to aquifers which supply potable water to a number of communities.

The matter was settled after it was revealed that the relevant agencies gave approval.
