Based on preliminary
reports from the close to 2,000 Citizens For Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE)
observers, the General Election got off to a good start.
The observers say over 90 per cent of polling stations were opened and functional by 7:30.
Over 90 per cent of the reports received by CAFFE indicate that all the required material was in place.
In some areas, voter turnout in the morning was higher than in the past and this has resulted in the voting process not moving quickly as expected.
CAFFE said it has noted a few incidents in St. Ann and Vineyard Town in Kingston.
In St. Ann there was an attempt to steal ballot boxes, while in Vineyard Town there were reports of explosions.
CAFFE said while the events are of concern and have caused some delay in the electoral process, the polling continues in those areas.
