Family members of a man who was killed by a mob in Sterling Castle Heights, St. Andrew, on Wednesday are reportedly fearful they too could be harmed.

The community is still on edge after two killings in less than a week.

Miguel Williams, 27, a resident of Sterling Castle Heights, was attacked and killed after being accused of involvement in the murder of eight year-old Chantae Skyers.

At a meeting Thursday in the community, a church representative appealed for peace as he noted that children in the area are hurting as a result of the incidents.

He said Chantae as well as family members of the murdered man were members of his church.

"We can just stop the matter now and let the law take its course because the children from the other side of family are very fearful of reprisal one way or the other. And so, in the interest of the families -both sets of families are hurting - I'm just gonna ask us to just let the police process continue," he urged residents.

He also warned that the community could become stigmatised if residents continue to take matters into their own hands.

Chantae's body, which had wounds to the head, was found in Sterling Castle Heights on Tuesday.

The police received a report shortly before 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon that Mr. Williams had been attacked by residents, beaten and then set ablaze.

The mob also set fire to his house.

In the meantime, Chantae's mother, who was among those attending Thursday's community meeting, told RJR's Hotline programme that she wished she had got a chance to see her daughter before she died as she had not spoken to her since January.

"Me just want tell har seh me love har. Me wish me could a tell har dat," she said in tears.

Superintendent Derrick Champagnie, crime chief for Area Five Police headquarters told RJR News that the two suspects held in connection with Chantae's murder were questioned on Thursday.

The suspects were taken into custody earlier this week.
