Investigators in the disappearance of Digicel employee Kevin Walker, who is presumed dead, say Tuesday's operation in Denham Town, Kingston which led to the fatal shooting of one suspect and the capturing of another, is a significant step forward in advancing the case.
The police say the deceased, known only as 'Diamond', was among several people listed as persons of interest in the disappearance of Mr. Walker.
The man apprehended is 19-year-old Tajay Thompson, otherwise called 'Teco'.
It's reported that about 7:30 p.m., members of the Kingston Western Police intercepted a stolen silver Toyota Probox in the vicinity of Nuttall Street and Last Street in Denham Town.
The officers say the vehicle was spotted being driven recklessly, and when signalled to stop, the occupants opened fire at the police, prompting them to return fire.
During the exchange, Diamond was shot and injured. He was pronounced dead at hospital.
Mr. Thompson was arrested at the scene.
The police say a nine millimetre pistol was recovered.
The victim of the carjacking reportedly identified Diamond as the person who robbed him.
Meanwhile, the two remaining suspects in the disappearance of Mr. Walker - Lavar Whitter and a man known by the alias 'Shano' - are still at large.
They are being urged to surrender immediately.
The police say there are now four people in custody, including three women, in relation to the case. Mr. Walker was reported missing on February 2.
