Golding: Government should do more for the vulnerable

The Andrew Holness administration is being challenged by the Parliamentary Opposition to implement tax cuts on the heels of  Finance Minister Audley Shaw's Budget Presentation yesterday during which he announced that Jamaicans will not have to fork more to the Government during the 2018/2019 fiscal year.

The Finance Minister said there will be no new taxes during the year which begins on April 1 due to buoyant revenue inflows to the Government's coffers. Opposition Spokesperson on Finance, Mark Golding, is asserting that the Government has fallen short because based on the current economic climate, it could have done more for the most vulnerable in the society.

Mr Golding has criticised that persons who did not benefit from the 1.5 tax plan are particularly at a disadvantage and should have been given more protection
