Hearing postponed for Maroon lawsuit against gov't

The hearing of an application seeking an injunction to restrain the Government and the Jamaica National Heritage Trust from entering the Cockpit Country and extracting minerals until a determination of title and ownership is disclosed, has been postponed until September 30.

The application seeking the injunction was filed on behalf of Chief of the Accompong Maroons Richard Currie.

The matter was scheduled to be heard in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

An application to strike out the claim was also postponed.

The hearing was put off after Justice Kirk Anderson told attorneys representing Mr. Currie and the Attorney General that he would not proceed without all the documents being filed.
