The man shot Monday on Laws Street in downtown Kingston during an alleged confrontation with members of the Jamaica Defence Force has been identified as 24-year old Terron Hewitt.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has started an investigation into the incident, which occurred in the vicinity of a Kingston Central checkpoint.
INDECOM says the officers involved will be required to provide a statement and or attend the office of the Commission to be interviewed.
The Commission says JDF reported that a confrontation occurred between members of the public and a group of soldiers at the checkpoint.
During that confrontation, one soldier discharged his weapon at Mr. Hewitt, who was pronounced dead at hospital.
INDECOM says no member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force was present or involved in the incident.
No firearm was recovered or in the possession of the deceased at the time of the incident.
The Commission is urging witnesses to contact its office or by sending the photos and videos to its official WhatsApp number at 876-553-5555.
