The Jamaica Debates Commission says it will fine tune plans for the staging of national political debates once Prime Minister Andrew Holness announces the date for the general election.
There will be three debates on leadership, finance and economics as well as social issues.
Noel daCosta, Chairman of the Jamaica Debates Commission, says there could be a fourth debate if the general and local government elections are held on the same day.
Last year, the Commission held consultations with representatives of the Jamaica Labour Party and the People's National Party and a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on October 16 with both parties agreeing to the debates.
Mr. daCosta said further consultations will be held after the election date is announced.
The Jamaica Debates Commission said with the restrictions on mass gatherings, the political debates will play an even more significant role in educating the public on the issues and how the political parties plan to govern.
The Commission said that it has been actively engaged in securing financial support to underwrite the staging of the political debates.
"It's a little slower than we would anticipate at this time, but we're pressing ahead nonetheless, he said.
