Jamaica's COVID-19 vaccine supply down to 13,000, but more expected this week

Health & Wellness Minister Christopher Tufton speaking in Parliament on Tuesday

Jamaica's current supply of COVID-19 vaccines has dwindled to just 13,000 doses.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness shared that information when he addressed the House of  Representatives on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister also apologised for last weekend's chaos at Kingston’s National Arena when scores of persons were turned away having shown up to be vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health & Wellness today (Wednesday) resumed vaccinating individuals 50 years and older who are due their second dose.

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton told the House that a bit more than 20 thousand people are due to be vaccinated in coming weeks, but he was positive that there will be adequate supplies to meet that demand, disclosing that 38,000 doses of vaccine will arrive in Jamaica this week.

That, in combination with the 13,000 currently in stock, will “give us sufficient amount to deal with those persons, not just 50 and over, but those who require a second dose before the twelve week period would have expired.”
