The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU) has made it clear the group does not intend to renegotiate the wage deal signed with the government, despite discontent being expressed by some unions under the umbrella of the confederation.

In an interview with Radio Jamaica News, JCTU President Helene Davis Whyte asserted that a majority of public workers represented by the confederation are satisfied with the new pay package.

"Most of my members are overjoyed with what they have received. So there are some who may want a renegotiation, but the vast majority are happy with what they have gotten," she insisted.

She said those members who have expressed reservations about the new wage package are primarily travelling officers.

General Secretary of the National Workers Union (NWU) Granville Valentine earlier called for a re-examination of the compensation package for public sector workers.

He argued that a number of workers and agencies are yet to have their salaries properly adjusted, and many still do not understand the government's method of calculation.

Mr. Valentine said the government and unions should head back to the negotiating table to get a better deal for workers.
