The call by Opposition Leader Mark Golding on the weekend for an increase in the national minimum wage is being supported by the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions (JCTU)
During the People's National Party's annual conference on Sunday Mr Golding said the minimum wage should be adjusted from seven thousand dollars to 12-thousand dollars.
In supporting the call for an increase, JCTU President Helen Davis Whyte told Radio Jamaica News that the government should move urgently to implement a livable wage in light of the increase in the cost of living.
She cautioned however that the increase in the minimum wage should be based on affordability.
