Jean-Ann Panton denied bail

Jean-Ann Panton, the former wealth advisor implicated in the billion-dollar fraud at investment firm Stocks and Securities Limited, was denied bail when she appeared in the Home Circuit Court.

She has been remanded until February 24.

Ms Panton was slapped with several charges on Friday morning, including larceny as a servant, forgery, uttering forged documents, as well as breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act, specifically engaging in transaction involving criminal property, and breaches of the Cybercrimes Act in relation to access with intent to commit fraud.

Her attorney Tamika Harris made an application for bail, citing a dislocated hip which Ms Panton was allegedly born with. The attorney also presented a medical certificate to the court.

After examining the medical certificate, Justice Lorna Shelly Williams said it only speaks to Ms Panton having diabetes.

The judge, in refusing the bail application, said the medical report is lacking.

She ordered Ms Panton's attorney to get additional information to support her claim that her client has mobility issues and will not receive adequate care in custody.
