Kingston emerging as fastest-growing Caribbean destination

Delano Seiveright, Senior Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism

The Ministry of Tourism says Kingston is emerging as the fastest-growing individual destination in the Caribbean this summer despite global competition.

This is supported by a recent report from leading international travel analytics firm, ForwardKeys.

Delano Seiveright, Senior Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, said Kingston's arrivals are set to increase by almost 30 per cent, compared with the similar period in 2022.

He said this surpasses other popular destinations like Nassau in the Bahamas, which experienced an 18 per cent growth.

Mr. Seiveright attributed Kingston's success to the strength of the Jamaican diaspora, which he said is travelling heavily this summer.

"We have a lot of airline seats between the United States and Jamaica, and other countries and Jamaica - 16 per cent more than what we had in 2019, which was our last best year. And our load factors are hovering around 90 per cent on these flights," he added.

According to Mr. Seiveright, several airlines have increased daily flights from the United States to Jamaica this summer.

"JetBlue alone will be doing five flights per day between New York's John F. Kennedy and Kingston and four flights per day between Fort Lauderdale and Kingston. And this does not, of course, include the flights that American Airlines has with Miami and Spirit also has with Fort Lauderdale."

He said the developments show that Jamaica's product is resilient and that the work put in during the pandemic is paying dividends.
