Labour Ministry to intervene in dispute with JPS workers

A meeting called by the Ministry of  Labour failed to settle the dispute involving the Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS, and its 400 technical and administrative employees.

Officials of  the utility company and the Union of  Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), which represents the workers, met on Tuesday.

UCASE General Secretary, John Levy, told Radio Jamaica News that another meeting has been arranged for the parties to continue talks.

The JPS workers are upset about the non-payment of  a performance incentive in 2016 and 2017. However, the utility company says there is no signed agreement for the incentive payment.

The JPS said the matter has been with the Ministry of  Labour for the past three years and is yet to be finalised
