The St. Ann Police have launched a manhunt for a person they believe can assist them in their investigation into the killing of three-year-old Nevalesia Campbell in Brown's Town, on Sunday.
The body of Nevalesia was found in bushes, with multiple chop wounds, hours after she was reported missing. The incident has sparked outrage in the parish.
Superintendent Gary Francis, acting head of the St. Ann Police, said the police are hoping to make an early breakthrough in their investigation of the murder. He said they have already identified at least one person who they believe can assist in the case.
He made a plea to residents who may be angry about the killing to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
"If (residents) have anybody that they believe might be responsible, call us and let us do the proper investigation," he urged instead.
The mother of the child told investigators that the family had retired to bed, and hours later, discovered Nevalesia was missing.
