Mikael Phillips to stand trial next year

Former Peoples National Party candidate for East Rural St Andrew, Mikael Phillips is to stand trial in January next year on assault charges.

Mr. Phillips, the son of Dr Peter Phillips, appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Tuesday on charges that he assaulted his wife earlier this year.

Mr. Phillips has strongly denied the allegations.

However, investigators reported that in February this year Mr. Phillips and his estranged wife Michelle, who are involved in a custody battle, got into a dispute at her Beverly Hills residence.

During the dispute, it's alleged that she was physically assaulted.

The matter was reported to the St Andrew Central Police who summoned Mr. Phillips to court to answer charges of assaulting a female and assault occasioning bodily harm.

He's to return to court on January 7.

Mr. Phillips lost to the JLP's Joe Hibbert during last year's General Election in East Rural, St Andrew.
