NAJ President Patsy Edwards Henry
The Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ) has disclosed that some of its members are again being infected with COVID-19 as the country grapples with the third wave of the virus.
NAJ President Patsy Edwards Henry said the affected nurses are from Kingston, St. Andrew and Clarendon, with two out sick from Kingston Public Hospital, one from the University Hospital of the West Indies and three from May Pen Hospital.
Added to that, the NAJ president said nurses are overworked and "at their wits' end" amid the increase in the COVID-19 patient load and the vaccination blitz, which has forced them to be "working 24/7."
Mrs Edwards Henry painted a grim picture at Port Antonio Hospital where offices are being retrofitted to accommodate the influx of COVID-19 patients.
She said medical personnel have been overwhelmed, with the director, senior medical officer and other administrative staff having to move out of their offices to accommodate more hospital beds.
The NAJ president was speaking Thursday on the Morning Agenda on Power 106.
