Dr. Christopher Tufton and Dr. Melody Ennis, Director of Family Health Services in the Ministry of Health
Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton says more than 10,000 people received second doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine during last weekend's blitz exercise.
Up to Wednesday, 28,335 people had received second doses.
Dr. Tufton made the announcement on Monday during the launch of the new COVID-19 vaccination software.
The CommCare Software, donated by UNICEF and supported by the Private Sector Vaccination Initiative, allows for the registration of Jamaicans who are vaccinated and for analysis of that data.
Dr. Tufton said the software has been fully implemented across the country, and based on the data, 10,608 people received their second vaccine dose this weekend, while another 815 people got their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine.
SERHA exceeds target
Dr. Melody Ennis, Director of Family Health Services in the Ministry of Health, said the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) exceeded its target to inoculate 6,500 individuals during last weekend's blitz.
She said 8,483 people are vaccinated.
More school officials vaccinated
Additionally, Dr. Ennis said 40 school officials received their first shot of the vaccine while 594 received their second dose.
Last week, Prime Minister Andrew Holness urged teachers to get vaccinated so that physical classes can resume in September.
Mr. Holness said he would like to see at least 80 per cent of teachers vaccinated against the coronavirus.
