Negril based policeman charged with murder

Another member of  the Jamaica Constabulary Force has been charged with murder following a ruling by the Director of  Public Prosecutions.

Twenty-seven year-old Constable Kimani Williams, who is assigned to the Negril Police Station in Westmoreland, was charged on Tuesday in connection with the death of  Kemoy Crooks on May 29, 2020.

Constable Williams was taken before the Westmoreland Parish Court where he was granted bail in the sum of  $750,000 following an application by his attorney Christopher Townsend.

He is scheduled to return to court on April 12.

It was reported that a police team responded to reports that four men were seen chopping a man in Whitehall, Negril.

The men ran when the police arrived.

During a chase, it's alleged that Mr Crooks pulled a firearm and was shot.

In applying for bail, Mr. Townsend argued that Constable Williams was carrying out his duty and acting in self  defence.

He claimed that the illegal firearm was removed from the scene by associates of  Mr Crooks.
