Joseph Cunningham, Public Relations Officer at Jamaica North South Highway
Effective next Thursday, motorists using the North South Highway will see an adjustment in the toll rates.
The operators of the highway say some rates will be rounded down and up to the nearest $50 or $100. This means that some motorists will pay less or more depending on the leg of the highway.
In an interview with RJR News Thursday morning, Joseph Cunningham, Public Relations Officer at Jamaica North South Highway, described the increases as minimal.
"Under the concessionary agreement, an increase in toll rates of between 16 to 18 per cent is permissible to the operators of the Jamaica North South Highway at this time. However, the management of the Jamaica North South Highway company has given consideration to the economic challenges being faced by the people of Jamaica...and as a result...we have decided to give discounted rates," he explained.
The special rates will apply starting from 10 p.m. on September 14 to 10 p.m. on December 31.
