NWA reports progress in reopening blocked roads

By Racquel Porter

The National Works Agency (NWA) says it has made significant progress in reopening roadways rendered impassable due to Hurricane Beryl.

The affected roads were blocked by fallen trees, downed power lines and poles.

On Wednesday, the NWA reported close to 50 roadways deemed impassable and a similar number reduced to single lane access.

But Communication Manager Stephen Shaw says the agency is working with JPSCo and its contractors to remove the blockage from the corridors:

"We been able do cutting and removal of same and so we just to encourage persons to continue to exercise patience. We are aware of almost all of the situations but it will take time for us to go through and have all the corridors reopened," he noted.

In the meantime, Mr. Shaw said there has been a challenge with getting reports from the southern parishes of St. Elizabeth, Manchester, Clarendon as well as from Westmoreland due to connectivity issues.
