Senator Janice Allen, Opposition Spokesperson on Tourism
The Parliamentary Opposition is demanding that the appointment of Lionel Myrie as interim head of the Tourism Product Development Company (TPDCo) be rescinded.
Spokesperson on Tourism Senator Janice Allen has described his appointment as alarming and disrespectful to the people of Jamaica.
In a statement on Friday, Senator Allen contended that a cloud still hangs over Mr. Myrie arising from his role in the Petrojam scandal.
Mr. Myrie, who was a director of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica, the parent company of Petrojam, faced strong backlash for his role in controversial multi-million dollar donations by the oil refinery.
In an interview with Radio Jamaica News on Friday afternoon, Senator Allen said stakeholders in the tourism sector are concerned about Mr. Myrie's appointment at TPDCo.
"In such a short time, for him to be given such a senior role heading this agency in tourism is of concern to myself and others in the industry and for this to be done...it's almost a slap in the face of good governance," contended the senator.
"I'm calling on the minister to take action now because this is really unacceptable," she insisted.
