Persons with disabilities urged to apply for jobs

Dr. Christine Hendricks, Executive Director of the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities

Persons with disabilities are encouraged to get qualified and apply for employment across all sectors in Jamaica.

Dr. Christine Hendricks, Executive Director of the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities, said two local commercial banks recently trained persons with disabilities for jobs in the banking sector.

More than 40 people benefitted from the job market training provided by the National Commercial Bank and Scotiabank.

But Dr. Hendricks said the banks expressed that not many people with disabilities have been applying for positions.

"[It] says to me too that persons with disabilities, maybe out of fear or whatever the situation is...they are not seeing the advertisements," she surmised.

Dr. Hendricks said people from Kingston, St. Andrew and St. Catherine benefitted from the recent training, which will be extended to other parishes.
