The People's National Party is calling for the resignation of chairman of the Industrial Disputes Tribunal, IDT, Marsha Smith, following her selection as Jamaica Labour Party caretaker for the constituency of St. Ann North East.
In a news release, Opposition Spokesman on Labour Horace Dalley said the IDT is an independent quasi-judicial body, which must adjudicate on matters between workers and employers, which very often include the government.
He said Ms Smith must resign immediately so that the integrity and neutrality of the IDT are maintained.
Mr. Dalley added that it is untenable that Ms Smith would begin her engagement as a political representative and continue her association with the Tribunal.
