Police officer to be charged with rape

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ruled that charges be laid against a Police Sergeant, who is accused of raping a medical practitioner.

The ruling was handed down on Thursday, following an investigation by the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA).

The policeman, whose name has not been released, is expected to be charged and taken before the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Friday.

The latest incident is expected to cause embarrassment to the Police High Command as the policeman in question was recently given a major award for his outstanding service to the force and community. He is attached to the East Kingston Police Division.

CISOCA began its probe last week, after a complaint was filed, accusing the cop of rape.

It's reported, that last Thursday, the alleged victim and the policeman both participated in a Labour Day project at the Bellevue Hospital. At the end of the day, it's reported that he invited her out.

It's understood, that sometime between 9 and 10pm, the policeman took the woman to the compound of the Elletson Road police station, where it's alleged that she was raped.

Superintendent Gladys Brown, Head of CISOCA, confirmed the ruling.
