A special surge operation is underway to nab criminals and restore public order in St. Elizabeth.

Superintendent Coleridge Minto, Commanding Officer for the parish, says the multi-divisional operation involved the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), Specialised Operations, Canine Division, the Area Fugitive  Apprehension Team as well as members of the Jamaica Defence Force.

Superintendent Minto said the operation has so far resulted in arrests and motor vehicle seizures for breaches of the Road Traffic Act.

"The aim of the operation was targeting wanted men, persons of interest, as also to ensure that there is public order and public safety on our major corridors. So far we have seized three motorbikes, one motorcar, over 60 tickets have been issued for breach of the Road Traffic Act, and three persons have been arrested," he detailed.

In another crackdown on criminal elements, the Trelawny police seized two cellular phones and cash amounting to $624,500 during a series of pre-dawn joint police/military cordon and search operations.

The targeted operations were conducted in Ulster Spring, Wait-A-Bit and Warsop under Operation Reassure.

A suspect was arrested and subsequently charged.

Another 13 people were detained on reasonable suspicion of breaching the Law Reform Act, while five others were taken to the Falmouth Police Station for further investigation.

The police say Operation Reassure continues to target violence producers, persons of interest, wanted persons, major lottery scammers, and the seizure of prohibited weapons and ammunition.
