Deputy Superintendent Linroy Edwards, head of operations for the St. Catherine North Police Division
The St. Catherine North Police Division says it is continuing the pursuit of criminals who were displaced during the State of Public Emergency in the parish.
It's reported that some of the criminals have either fled the island or to other parishes.
Deputy Superintendent Linroy Edwards, head of operations for the division, pointed to the recent capture of 30-year-old Rudolph Shaw in the Cayman Islands.
Mr. Shaw, who fled Jamaica by boat, is wanted in connection with several murders and shootings in the St. Catherine North Division and South Police Division.
DSP Edwards said regular patrol of towns, particularly Spanish Town, will be maintained to prevent a repeat of the violence that erupted last month.
Four guns were seized during operations last month and several persons arrested.
DSP Edwards said the maintenance of checkpoints that were erected during the State of Emergency is part of the police strategy to limit the movement of criminals.
"We still continue to stop and search vehicles that are suspected to be involved in criminal activities," he explained.
Checkpoints also remain in sections of the St. Catherine South Division.
