A policeman, who was assigned to the Operations Branch, is to spend six years behind bars for stealing a gun.
Constable Ajani McBean was sentenced yesterday at the Home Circuit Court, having pleaded guilty in June.
He was sentenced to six years imprisonment with hard labour on the charge of Illegal Possession of Firearm, and two years on the Simple Larceny charge.
The sentences are to run concurrently.
The Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau (IPROB) of the police force launched an investigation after a it was discovered that firearm and a magazine containing fourteen 9mm rounds of ammunition had disappeared from a police station in St. Catherine.
On January 18, an operation was conducted and the firearm and ammunition were recovered at Constable McBean's home.
He was charged following a ruling from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
