The Jamaica Manufacturers & Exporters Association will soon have a new president.
Sydney Thwaites, the current president, who has served for two consecutive years, has confirmed that he will not be seeking re-election when the Association holds its Annual General Meeting on July 16.
The JMEA represents the country's manufacturing sector, which accounts for nearly 10 percent of GDP. It also represents the country's exporters.
Meanwhile, merchandise exports declined by 13.2 per cent to US$306.3 million during the first two months of the year.
Imports rose, however, to US$1.3 billion, resulting in a trade deficit of US$1 billion.
