An investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of a fire at Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries in Montego Bay, St. James.

The fire broke out inside the church on Sunday night.

Emilio Ebanks, Public Relations Officer for the Jamaica Fire Brigade, said two units were dispatched to the scene after the brigade received a call about 10:35 p.m.

"On arrival at the scene, we came across what seems to have been food items and other materials that could be seen as garbage which were on fire inside the church building. We got into operation and extinguished the fire and we now have investigators here trying to ascertain the cause of the fire," he told Radio Jamaica News.

Mr. Ebanks said the probe is expected to be completed soon.

Pathways International Kingdom Restoration Ministries has been in the news since the police stormed the church on October 17 after receiving reports that congregants were being killed as part of a religious ritual.

When they arrived, two congregants - Taneka Gardner and Michael Brown - were already dead.

A third congregant died after engaging the police in a gun battle.
