Rank and file cops from St. Andrew South division on sick-out

Corporal Rohan James, Chairman of the Police Federation and Senior Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, commander of the St. Andrew South division

Rank and File members from the St. Andrew South Police Division are on a sick-out.

Radio Jamaica News was informed that more than 20 police officers have not reported for duty since Tuesday morning.

Chairman of the Police Federation Corporal Rohan James said the issue is in relation to the work schedule and "contempt and disrespect" from the leadership of the division.

The cops, he said, are "disgruntled about the configuration of the duties as well as the manner in which they have been communicated to".

Senior Superintendent Kirk Ricketts, commander of the St. Andrew South division, has said efforts are being made to resolve the concerns of the officers who have not reported for duties.

He noted that the matter is confined to one unit in the police division.

SSP Ricketts said a meeting was held Tuesday morning with some members of the unit and "a number of issues were explored, particularly surrounding the deployment and the duty that is set".

Following the discussions, he said he expects normality to return "rather quickly" to the unit.

In the meantime, SSP Ricketts sought to assure that the division has adequate police personnel to respond to the needs of citizens.
