Prime Minister Bruce Golding Thursday night unveiled a
major re-development plan which he says could bring economic benefits to Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
Addressing the Annual General meeting of the St. Catherine Chamber of Commerce and Industry the Prime Minister said the multimillion dollar venture will be under the auspices of an entity known as the Spanish Town Re-development Company, SPARCOM.
According to Mr. Golding SPARCOM will have a start up share capital of five-hundred million dollars funded by private and public sector entities.
He added that for the development to be successful the residents of Spanish Town must play an integral role.
Meanwhile the St. Catherine Parish Council has announced plans to introduce a state of the art parking system for sections of the Old Capital.
Addressing last night's Annual General meeting of the St. Catherine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mayor of Spanish Town Dr. Andrew Wheatley disclosed that the project set to be implemented early next year has been approved.
Motorists who have to conduct business at the St. Catherine Parish Council and the Spanish Town Court Office are often times seen jostling for parking spaces.
