Repairs to Grantham bridge in Clarendon to be completed before new school term

Stephen Shaw, NWA Communication Manager

The National Works Agency (NWA) says repairs to the bridge at Grantham in Frankfield, Clarendon, which was the scene of a crash in May that left eleven students injured, should be completed before the start of the new academic year.

On May 8, a taxi, which was transporting Edwin Allen High students, plunged into the Rock River after colliding with another taxi.

Metal guard rails on the bridge will be replaced with concrete barriers.

"We have looked at the situation there and a design has been put forward and we have also been allocating special sum of money to treat with that particular situation. So we intend to put in roughly 25 metres of barriers along the road there and this we know should assist in keeping persons who use this particular corridor safe," said NWA Communications Manager Stephen Shaw, who was speaking Tuesday on Morning Agenda on Power 106.
