The Riverton City dump is on fire again.
RJR news understands that four fire units have been working since last night to contain the blaze, which, according our sources, was deliberately set and the finger of blame is being pointed at some disgruntled employers of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA). RJR News has not been able to independly confirm that charge.
Currently there are units from the Spanish Town, Trench Town, York park and Half Way Tree fire stations working with NSWMA Trucks toput out one remaining area which is still on fire.
The fire brigade received the first call at 9:56 last night that there was a blaze at the dump which was contained by about midnight. However, at 3:20am, there was another call about fires at two other sections of the dump.
RJR sources say, while there are four fire engines at the dump currently working, along with a tractor from the NSWMA, transporting material to assist, this is not enough.
The units do not have a constant supply of water and the fire service is seeking the assistance of the National Water Commission.
