A number of suspects in murders and shootings in the Kingston WesternPolice Division have been arrested since the imposition of a curfew on Monday.
Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the Kingston Western Police, told Radio Jamaica News that eight people were picked up for questioning.
The curfew was imposed in the communities of Zimbabwe, Mexico and Angola as part of measures to quell gang violence.
It has been extended for 48 hours.
Kingston Western was one of seven police divisions in which a state of emergency expired on Saturday.
