The Jamaica Teachers Association is calling for changes to the Government's Pension Scheme for public school teachers to speed up payment for retired educators.
This appeal comes in light of an age-old complaint that some retired educators are struggle to make ends meet as are forced to wait for a protracted period before starting to receive their pension payments.
JTA President La Sonja Harrison, who addressed the matter Tuesday on The Morning Agenda, on Power 106, asserted that the turn-around period should be much shorter.
She's proposing a ninety-day turn-around period be established for completing the process leading to the commencement of pension disbursement, once the requisite documents are properly authenticated.
It should be a seamless process, not one dependent on individuals having friends in relevant departments to have their cases processed, she urged.
In that regard, she's recommending that a "tracking number" be assigned to each applicant's case, which would facilitate ease of communication and processing.
