The police say an inDrive taxi operator remains in custody while they continue their investigations into the abduction and murder of University of Technology student Anisa Dilworth.
Superintendent Mark Harris, head of the St. Andrew Central Police, made it clear that the driver will remain in custody while the police intensify their probe of the case.
The driver was taken into custody days after Anisa was reported missing. The UTech student was reported missing on Wednesday, May 7.
Remains believed to be hers were discovered at a popular fishing beach in Portmore on the weekend.
Personal items, including a key to her apartment, were found at the scene.
On Wednesday, inDrive said it is deeply saddened by the disappearance of the university student, but its records show that her last ride using the app was in 2024.
The ride-hailing platform said it has conducted its own verification to identify the driver involved and has determined that both the driver and passenger are registered on its platform.
It said Anisa's last ride was in 2024 and the driver's account was created afterward, confirming that she could not have booked him for a ride.
It said even as the driver's profile shows no unusual activity, his account has been temporarily suspended pending a review.
Based on the available data, the company said, there is no record indicating that the incident occurred during a trip arranged through inDrive.
Superintendent Harris declined to respond to inDrive's statement.
