Suspect in Dean Pen arson attack to be questioned this week

Detectives attached to the Major Investigation Division, MID, are expected to continue their questioning of the suspect arrested in connection with last week's deadly arson attack in Dean Pen, Highgate, St. Mary in which a woman and her child were killed.

Rose Beecher, 38, and her four-year-old child were killed when their house was firebombed by unknown assailants.

A senior investigator told Radio Jamaica News that investigators are to conduct a review of the case this week to determine whether they have enough evidence to bring charges.

The suspect was picked up shortly after Miss Beecher and her daughter, Soraya Kowen, died in a house fire.

It is reported that on October 18, the two victims and other family members were at home asleep when a molotov cocktail was thrown through a window of the house.

This triggered a fire that destroyed the dwelling.

Soraya died in the flames, while her mother later succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

The other family members escaped the flames.
