Suspects in teen's killing identified

The St. Catherine North Police have identified four suspects in connection with Monday's murder of a 15-year-old boy in Jones Avenue, Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

Kevin McKenzie, a student of Backlands, Jones Avenue, was shot and his head partially severed.

The teenager was disposing garbage about 7:30 a.m. when he was killed.

Deputy Superintendent Linroy Edwards, head of Operations for the St. Catherine North Police, told Radio Jamaica News that the teenager was killed in reprisal for the murder of 23-year-old Jakari Whonder in the neighbouring community of Shelter Rock on Sunday night.

The security forces conducted operations in Spanish Town on Tuesday, following a flare-up of violence in the area.

DSP Edwards, who led the operations, said a number of suspects, including two top tier members of the Spanish Town based Clansman gang, were detained.

The two men were held in Quarry Hill.

DSP Edwards disclosed that rounds of ammunition for high powered rifles were seized at the home of one of the suspects.

He said the operations were in response to gang violence in Shelter Rock, Lakes Pen, Quarry Hill and Jones Avenue.
