Three people, including a 17-year-old male, are to face the courts after an illegal firearm and ammunition was found in a car in which they were travelling.
Charged with unauthorised possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition are 50-year-old taxi operator Richard Kirlew, otherwise called "Trooper", of Mount Salem; 22-year-old Clive Lawson, otherwise called "Greedy", of Catherine Mount; and the 17-year-old male. All three are from St. James.
Reports are that members of the St. James Police were on operation along Strand Street in Montego Bay about 6:30 p.m. on Friday, when the action of Mr. Lawson aroused their suspicion.
Mr. Lawson, on seeing the police, boarded a car being driven by Mr. Kirlew with the 17-year-old aboard.
The car was intercepted and searched and a Browning 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing nine rounds were found.
The three were taken into custody.
They were all charged on Monday following question and answer sessions in the presence of their respective attorneys.
Their court date is yet to be finalised.
