Three men accused of robbery in St. Elizabeth captured

Superintendent Dwight Daley, head of the St. Elizabeth Police

Three men accused of carrying out an armed robbery in St. Elizabeth last year have been captured by the police.

An illegal gun and 15 rounds of ammunition were allegedly taken from the suspects, who are said to be from Clarendon.

Superintendent Dwight Daley, head of the St. Elizabeth Police, told Radio Jamaica News that the men were held shortly after carrying out an armed robbery in Mountainside about 10 o'clock on Wednesday night.

The gunmen reportedly held up and robbed patrons at a bar then escaped in a white Toyota Axio motorcar.

The police were alerted and were able to intercept the vehicle, which had three men aboard.

"The car was searched and a nine millimetre Taurus pistol loaded with 15 nine millimetre cartridges were found. The men were arrested and the firearms seized. The items that were stolen were recovered," said Superintendent Daley.

The police theorise that the gunmen were working with an accomplice who is believed to be in possession of a motorcycle that was stolen by the robbers at the bar.

This is the second vehicle with firearms intercepted by the St. Elizabeth police in the last three days.

Ten illegal guns and 168 rounds of ammunition have been seized in the parish since the start of the year.
