Attorney-at-law Bert Samuels explaining the purpose of the Trafigura hearing
Radio Jamaica News has been informed that three members of the People's National Party (PNP) named in the Trafigura Beheer matter have confirmed their attendance for today's resumption of questioning.
In a judgment handed down in April last year, the Privy Council ruled against five members of the PNP involved in the case.
They are former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, former party chairman Robert Pickersgill, Member of Parliament Phillip Paulwell, Colin Campbell and Norton Hinds.
The Privy Council ruled that the five be questioned in open court.
Attorney Bert Samuels, who is representing Campbell, told Radio Jamaica News that his client will be in attendance for the proceedings.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that Paulwell and Mr. Hinds will also be present.
The Gleaner reported on Sunday that Simpson Miller will be absent from court due to illness while Pickersgill has requested permission to appear virtually.
The case stems from the request by authorities in The Netherlands for the five PNP functionaries to answer questions about a $31 million donation to the party in 2006 by Trafigura Beheer, which is a Dutch company.
Dutch firms are prohibited from making donations to foreign governments.
In 2011, Norton Hinds began answering questions in the Supreme Court but the case was halted as the PNP members challenged a decision by the presiding judge that they give testimony in open court.
