The President of the Port Trailer Haulage Association, Barzelle Wright, has disclosed that a substantial number of truck drivers have migrated.

This comes as debate continues about the shortage of skilled persons in the country.

Mr. Wright told Radio Jamaica News that many are leaving out of frustration, in relation to their working environment and pay.

Lengthy delays at Kingston Freeport Terminal on Monday left truckers frustrated and calling for the authorities to address the slow process for retrieving cargo.

The truckers reported that it was taking up to three hours to clear a container instead of the normal 30 to 45 minutes.

Mr Wright contends that this level of frustration will not help Jamaica in its bid to retain drivers, "and it is not just now; ... they have been leaving to go to Canada, to America, to England, and to other places, because of the frustration."
