UK plans to deport more Jamaicans

More reports have surfaced that another group of  Jamaicans will be deported from the UK next month.

According to the Voice newspaper, 16 Jamaicans are being held at the Colnbrook and Brook House detention centres pending the flight.

It says the number of  detainees is expected to rise sharply in coming days ahead of  the November 10 charter flight.

News of  the upcoming deportations has caused uproar from campaigners in the UK.

A demonstration is set to take place outside the Jamaican High Commission on November 4.

National organiser at human rights advocacy group Movement for Justice, Karen Doyle, told The Voice that the current handling of  detainees is inhumane.

Health and safety procedures have also been brought into question with rising Covid-19 cases following an outbreak at the Colnbrook centre.

One detainee reportedly described the facilities as filthy with rats and unchanged bedding being commonplace.

National Chair of  lobby group Black Activists Rising Against Cuts, Zita Holbourne, has urged potential detainees to seek legal advice and support.

She went on to blast the Home Office's continued targeting of  nationals from the Caribbean ahead of  the third charter flight.

Home Secretary Priti Patel recently announced new reforms in the Nationality and Borders Bill, which will force visa penalties on countries that do not cooperate with deportations.
