Venezuela: Guterres calls for ‘complete transparency’ following disputed presidential election

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has commended the people of Venezuela for their determination to express their will peacefully through the ballot box while calling for complete transparency in the disputed presidential elections.

Speaking with journalists at UN headquarters yesterday, spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the organisation has taken note of the announcement made by the electoral authorities as well as the concerns expressed by political actors and members of the international community.

He says the Secretary-General expects that all electoral disputes will be addressed and resolved peacefully.

Mr Guterres has also called for all Venezuelan political leaders and their supporters to exercise self restraint.
