Work from home order for public sector extended to August 10

Prime Minister Andrew Holness addressing the House of Representatives on Tuesday

The Jamaican Government is looking to lift the work from home order in the public sector when a certain number of civil servants have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

The existing order has been extended until August 10.

Only persons who work in critical service delivery and perform job functions that require them to be at the physical location should be required to be at the office.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness told Parliament on Tuesday that will change as the vaccination rate increases.

He said, having completed the vaccination of the military, the police "and the other non-civilian groups," the health authoritiies will now focus on "the critical service workers in the public sector - those who are the front-facing workers..."

"Once we have done that then we can lift the work from home (order)" he said.
