Yallahs to get new fire station

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie

Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie has said a new fire station is to be built in Yallahs, St. Thomas.

He said construction is to start by year end and is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

"Yallahs is desperately in need of a new fire facility, and not only are we going to be building the fire station, but we're also going to be providing two new trucks to go with the fire station when the construction is completed," Mr. McKenzie told those gathered at a town hall meeting in Morant Bay, St. Thomas on Thursday night.

Construction will be financed by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) and the World Bank.

Two other fire stations are to be built, one in Montego Bay, St. James and the other in Port Maria, St. Mary.
