Suriname launches campaign to combat high suicide rates

A campaign aimed at getting members of the Suriname population to talk openly about suicide has started amid concerns that the Dutch-speaking CARICOM country is among the top five countries with the most suicides worldwide.

Official figures show that approximately 130 people in Suriname die from suicide annually and that 600 suicide attempts are made each year.
