Suriname's opposition refuses invitation to Dutch PM's speech about slavery

The main opposition National Democratic Party (NDP) in Suriname says it will not accept the invitation to attend the presentation of the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte about slavery.

Mr Rutte is due to make the presentation later today via a live stream.

The NDP, which is led by former president Desie Bouterse, said it believes that the response by Prime Minister Rutte on behalf of the government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has been approached too one-sided.

The Opposition party added that there has been no consultation with stakeholders in Suriname and in the Netherlands.
