Three time World Championships 400 metre hurdles finalist Kaliese Spencer is no longer a member of the world reknowned MVP Track Club.
Head coach Stephen Francis has confirmed with RJR Sports that Spencer has quit the club.
According to Francis they met at their overseas training base in Italy following the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China where a date was set for her to resume training in September for the 2016 season when they return to Jamaica.
Francis said that date has passed and with Spencer having not reported for training, he takes it to mean that she’s no longer interested in being a member of the MVP Track Club.
"I have not seen Kaliese Spencer so I assume she's not coming back. We had a meeting in Italy and it was expressedly said when the training would start....those are some of the things we decided we would not tolerate anymore so I have to assume that if you know all of this and you decide that that is the case, that means you just don't want to come back," said Francis.
Spencer’s career has been guided by Francis since she left the Manning’s School and went to the University of Technology.
She had her first hurdles success at the 2006 World Junior Championships where she won the 400 metre hurdles title with a personal best run of 55.11 seconds.
She made her debut at the senior level the following year.
The 28 year old Spencer recorded fourth place finishes in the final of her pet event at the 2009 and 2011 IAAF World Championships as well as the London 2012 Olympics.
She was disqualified in the heats of the event at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow for a technical infringement and finished 8th in the final at the 2015 edition in Beijing, China.
She was the Commonwealth Games champion in 2014 and a double silver medallist at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
Her personal best of 52.79 seconds was recorded in 2011.
Quarter miler Christine Day and sprinter Natasha Morrisson are among the other athletes that have left MVP in recent weeks.
In the meantime, former high school standouts Nikita Tracey and Danielle Dowie, both 400m hurdlers, have returned home from the United States to join the MVP outfit.
